  • Happy Valentine’s day! Rom-coms are normally ‘women-only’, but that doesn’t mean that men can’t watch ’em too. I have made a list of romantic movies that everybody will enjoy. Which one will you be watching this Valentine’s day?

    Marriage Story

This newly released movie is a romantic movie that doesn’t talk about love, but rather the love that goes away. Centered around the divorce of Charlie and Nicole, we get to see an entirely other side of romance, not the cheesy one we normally see.

    Runtime: 2 hours, 17 minutes
    IMDb score: 8,0
    RottenTomatoes: 95%
Nominated for 6 Oscars, won 1

    La La Land

Don’t let your man reject this movie because it’s a musical: It’s much more than that! La La Land is an award-winning movie about aspiring actress Mia and jazz pianist Sebastian. Catchy, one-of-a-kind songs, no cheesy romance and a manly-man as the main character.

    Genre: Comedy, drama, musical

    Runtime: 2 hours, 8 minutes
    IMDb score: 8,0

    Notting Hill

English movies are the best! Hugh Grant’s typical rom-com with star Julia Roberts. William Thacker is a British man who owns a bookshop in the London neighboorhood of Notting Hill. One day, he meets the most famous movie star in the whole wide world and he finds his world turned upside down.

    Genre: Romance, comedy

    Runtime: 2 hours, 4 minutes
    IMDb score: 7,1
    RottenTomatoes: 83%
    Nominated for 3 Golden Globes

    The Tourist

The Tourist is a good alternative if the man wants to watch an action film and if the woman wants more. Evolving around Frank, an American tourist with a broken heart, and Elise, a British secret agent, set in beautiful Venice. The two keep crossing each other’s paths. Not the best movie on this list regarding quality, but it’s fun anyway.

    Genre: Action, adventure, crime
    Director: Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
Cast: Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Paul Bettany
    Runtime: 1 hour, 43 minutes
    IMDb score: 6,0

    Pretty Woman

The 90’s were full of great rom-coms and Pretty Woman is a classic. When businessman Edward is in need of an escort for some social events, he hires Vivian, a prostitute that seems to be the exact opposite of him.

    Ps. I Love You

I read great news regarding this movie yesterday: A sequel is in the works! Writer Cecelia Ahern published the sequel in October, and it’s been announced that Hillary Swank will once again take on the role of Holly in the movie based on the sequel. In the 13-year-old movie, Holly’s husband Gerry left 10 letters for her to read after he passes away.

    Genre: Comedy, drama, romance
    Director: Richard LaGravenese
    Cast: Hillary Swank, Gerard Butler
    Runtime: 2 hours, 6 minutes
    IMDb score: 7,0
    RottenTomatoes: 25%

    Titanic

Titanic can be seen as two different things: A movie about the love for a young woman and a young man, or a movie about a huge disaster. This makes it the perfect movie for both women and men. As the Titanic is floating on the ocean, young and poor Jack falls in love with rich Rose, only to be struck by disaster.

    Genre: Drama, romance
    Director: James Cameron
    Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet

    IMDb score: 7,8
    RottenTomatoes: 89%
Nominated for 14 Oscars, won 11

    Long Shot

This is probably one of the most overlooked movies of 2019. What seems like a predictable romantic comedy, turns out to be much more, actually. Charlotte field is running for president when she hires journalist Fred Flarsky to write her speeches. They know each other from their childhoods and as they embark on their journey together, sparks fly.

    Genre: Comedy, romance
    Director: Jonathan Levine
    Cast: Charlize Theron, Seth Rogen
    Runtime: 2 hours, 5 minutes
    IMDb score: 6,9
    RottenTomatoes: 81%

    Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

Based on comic book series Scott Pilgrim, this movie isn’t about people falling in love with each other, but it’s more of an absurd superhero movie that can’t be compared to anything else. When Scott falls in love with Ramona Flowers, Scott has to battle seven exes in order to get this girl.

    Genre: Action, comedy, fantasy
    Director: Edgar Wright
Cast: Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jason Schwartzman, Chris Evans, Mae Whitman
    Runtime: 1 hour, 52 minutes
    IMDb score: 7,5
    RottenTomatoes: 81%

    About Time

Think about how amazing it would be if we could time travel! About Time is a time travel movie but isn’t quite what you’d expect from it. When Tim is 21, he discovers that he is able to time travel. He can’t change history, but he can change chat happens. He tries to use his powers to get a date with the girl he likes, but that doesn’t turn out quite to be as easy as one might think.

    Genre: Comedy, Drama, Fantasy
    Director: Richard Curtis
Cast: Domhall Gleeson, Rachel McAdams, Bill Nighy
    Runtime: 2 hours, 3 minutes
